About Us

Community-rooted. Senior-led. Culturally grounded.

Our Origin

Jyapu Samaj Jestha Nagarik Ananda Niketan is a senior citizen care initiative developed by Jyapu Samaj Yala. It grows from the collective culture of the Jyapu community and from sustained elder-led dialogue — not from an external institutional blueprint.

The centre is a living expression of how care can be organised when a community chooses to keep its elders at the heart of decision-making and daily life.

Philosophy: Working with Senior Citizens

We do not “do care to” seniors. We work with them. Seniors are active contributors and decision-makers. Daily routines, activities, and even the direction of the programme evolve through their feedback and collective choice.

This participatory model ensures that Ananda Niketan remains a place of belonging and agency rather than a place of passive receipt of services.

Our Vision

To create and sustain a community space where seniors lead, care is shared, and dignity comes first — and to lead the development of a replicable, community-based senior citizen care model in Nepal.

What Makes Us Different

🤝

Senior-Led Decision-Making

Activities are co-created. Feedback loops keep the programme responsive to the people it serves.

🏠

Community Ownership

Rooted in Jyapu Samaj Yala’s collective culture. Care is a shared responsibility, not a privatised service.

🌿

Cultural Continuity

Language, food, festivals, songs, and everyday customs remain part of the fabric of the centre.

💛

Dignity Over Pity

We portray and treat seniors as capable, contributing adults — never as objects of charity.

🌱

A Model for Nepal

We aim to develop a practical, community-based approach that other communities can adapt and grow.

“Aging does not mean withdrawal from life.”

At Jyapu Samaj Jestha Nagarik Ananda Niketan, growing older means continuing to belong, to contribute, and to be heard.
